A survey from Re/Max Canada finds messy neighbours and poor curb appeal among the top deal-breakers for buyers, along with rooms that look smaller than in photos and heavy competition. Many of these issues can be addressed with staging or minor fixes.
In Edmonton, realtor Dave Ozubko says buyers are focused on price and presentation, and homes that don’t show well or have underlying problems often fail to attract offers.

A nearly 20-acre (eight-hectare) patch of land going up for sale in Edmonton this month may not seem like a big deal, but it marks the beginning of one of the largest infill developments in the city’s history, says the commercial realty firm managing its sale.
“It looks like it will have a really nice blend of single-family, multi-family and everything else with a good location close to downtown, the LRT and the river valley,” Dave Ozubko.

Economic uncertainty could be putting a damper on the spring real estate market as many Canadians, Edmontonians included, feel less wealthy and secure.
“But Edmonton is the hottest real estate market in Canada right now, and what’s going on with our friends and neighbours down south doesn’t seem to be having much impact.” Dave Ozubko.
